Nightmare
A horse poem by Tabitha S.
Nightmare
She bucks, she kicks up her heels blasphemously
She madly tears and rips into my dreams of posies
Nightmare
She rears, turns on her heels and races forward
her thundering hooves wildly beating
the silent ground of my thoughts
an ebony with but one white star to guide you
Nightmare
Her offspring of galiant colts frolic
on my mind with utmost gaiety
her filly’s little hooves patter in cadence
with the beating of my racing heart
Nightmare
A ghostly mare
who haunts all
and as always
transforming before my mind
she elapses into another figure
Nightmare
She’s a black feline fiend
A panther untrustworthy and reeling
Her seduction is strong
and though you thrust away
your weak barrier breaks
Nightmare
She pounces on your mind
And grasps you in her claws
There is no way out
Until the sunrise here will sweep
Over the beautiful mountains
Nightmare
A figment of your imagination
Once so real
But now a childish making
You felt the tremor the pain, the fear
And now it’s gone…it was only a dream
