A Day at the Horse Sale
Written By: Meghan Cantrell age when written: 15 Current age: 20

Note: This is a true story. About 6 years ago, my mother and I went to a sale and she bought this horse that was in deplorable shape for $150. No one ever thought that she'd turn out to be much, just a rescue case. She turned out to be a beautifully shaped, muscular brown and white paint Quarter Horse that we named Mesa. My mom went on to show and train her in Western Pleasure, and they did well. Thanks for your time. Also, any responses to my submission please note my email adds is : Mcantrell87@yahoo.com Thanks again!

My Mother and I were getting ready

To get up and leave at dawn.

We were hoping to buy a couple horses

To make a few dollars on.

We looked around when we got to the sale

But nothing caught our eye.

They only had about 100 head,

And the prices were going high.

We decided to take one last look

Before we headed home.

That's when we saw the man with a horse

That looked like nothing but bones.

From where we stood you could see the blisters

And sunburn on her face.

She was a pitiful sight, as we watched in dim light

While she struggled to stand in place.

We ended up paying $150

Just for the horse alone.

As we loaded her onto trailer

We wondered if she'd make it home.

Well my mother took that $150 horse

And worked with her day and night.

And after months of dedication

That horse became a sight!

She's so darn fat she has a ripple down her back

And her mane and coat just glow.

And here's the part that's hard to believe…

They're heading to their 1st horse show!

This story goes to show you folks

That a little love goes a very long way

From the sale barn to the show ring

This horse is here to stay!
